Isaiah Chapters 1-12
The God of Isaiah is the holy God. He is utterly set apart from his creation; he is their maker and their king. The whole earth is full of his glory. Because he is holy, to be unclean in his presence is recipe for utter disaster and judgement. But God is also the one who redeems his people, baring his holy arm to do so. He is completely unlike the idols of the nations, who are powerless.
God’s plan is to restore his people. This hope focuses on a restored Jerusalem, sometimes referred to by the hill within it, Mount Zion.
God’s plan for his people and his city to be restored is so that the nations will share in the blessing. Similarly, the Servant will not just restore Jacob but will bring salvation to the ends of the earth. As God brings his people back from being exiled among the nations, they will become the way God fulfils his grand plan, to bring the nations to worship him.
